What is Scrip?
Scrip is a term, having a military origin, which means "substitute money." All West Side Montessori families can use an online order form to purchase gift cards (or scrip), which have the same value as cash, to be used at their favorite participating grocery store, gas station, restaurant, etc.
To get a better idea of how to use scrip, just think about your own family’s spending habits. For instance, just in the past three days has anyone in your family, including grandparents and other relatives:
- Refueled a car with gas
- Stopped to pick up coffee
- Taken a business trip
- Bought gifts
- Shopped for groceries
- Dined out with your family
- Picked up a prescription
- Planned a vacation
If you answered “yes” to any or all of the above, you have experienced an opportunity to use scrip for those everyday spending habits and apply a percentage of the money spent towards your child’s tuition.
Each time you purchase scrip, a percentage of the money spent is applied toward your child’s tuition. The percentage varies depending on the vendor. WSM families never pay an upfront fee, rather your first $20 in profit is used to fund the program and everything after that is applied to your tuition on a monthly basis. You can get more information, including a list of participating vendors and profit rates online at www.nosa.us.
If you would like to join the scrip program at West Side, follow the directions available here, on our web site. Orders are processed weekly on Mondays, so order by Sunday at midnight to make sure your order is submitted the next day.
