Middle School POP Teams Finish First At Districts

Congratulations to West Side Montessori’s Middle School Power of the Pen (POP) teams for winning the District Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 19. Both the 7th and 8th level teams finished in first place and several students won individual honors at the all-day tournament in Tiffin.

POP TeamsThe 7th level team includes: Parker Caesar, T.J. Fidler, Claire Kohler, C.J. Leonard, Wyatt Reynolds, and Libby Stupica. The 8th level team includes: Bobbi Baranek, Brantley Bernhardt, Patrick Gorman, Brennor Masters, Drew Wagner,  and Alex Whitacre. Both teams are coached by WSM’s Middle School teacher Mary Brandon.

Individuals earning awards were:

Best of round 1 (7th) - Libby Stupica

Best of round 2 (7th) - Claire Kohler

Best of round 1 and 3 (8th) - Brantley Bernhardt


The following students placed in the Top 12:

7th grade

  • 2nd place – Claire Kohler
  • 4th place – Wyatt Reynolds
  • 9th place – Libby Stupica

8th grade

  • 4th place – Brantley Bernhardt
  • 7th place – Bobbi Baranek
  • 11th place – Patrick Gorman

The next competition is the regional round at Lourdes University on Thursday, March 7. The teams anxiously await to hear who will compete at the regional tournament along with the students who earned individual awards at districts. Writers who rank in the top 50% of finishers at the district competition are invited to participate at regionals.
