West Side Montessori is pleased to offer several options for extracurriculars. These classes are offered after school and are taught by West Side Montessori teachers and outside instructors. In general, each session will range from five to six weeks long.

Session 1

The first session of extracurricular classes will start the week of October 2 and end by November 10.

Open registration for Session 1 opens Tuesday, September 12, at noon, and continues through the end of the school day on Monday, September 19.

Late registration ($10 late fee) begins Tuesday, September 19. The registration window closes Friday, September 22 at noon. No registrations will be accepted after September 22. 

Online registration and payment information can be found under your parent portal account on the WSM website. The forms will be available through your family's account, allowing you to sign up electronically and then pay using your Discover, Mastercard, or Visa credit card or by e-check. The online registration allows for only one registration per student. You will not be able to add or change classes online once you register.

Edible Art

Children will explore different foods and textures to create Edible Masterpieces of Art.  Sarah Kreinbrink has been a Little House teacher for 16 years. She also previously directed Summer camp at West Side for 10 years. She has two children here, Carson and Paige.

Movement with Molly

Your toddler will learn basic dance skills, how to work in a group, and enjoy games and stories. Molly Kujawa, Rose Room teacher, is a certified Irish dance instructor.  She has been teaching dance since 2004.  Molly is the mother of two West Side children: Chianna and Sanibel.

Movement with Molly for 2-3yr olds will be held on Thursdays from 3:30-4:00 p.m. for 4 weeks in the Rose Room.

Red Ball Tennis - FULL

Kids will experience a fun environment for athletic development. We will be introducing basic tennis skills through a series of sending and receiving exercises. Tennis racquets will be provided as well as all other equipment. Phillip has been teaching tennis in the Toledo area since 2005. He is a USPTA certified teaching tennis professional as well as an assistant coach for the St. John's Jesuit tennis team. He is currently the Director of 10 and under tennis at Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness.

Red Ball Tennis for Children’s House will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:00 p.m. for 4 weeks on the Volleyball Courts by West Fields.

Little Leprechauns

Your preschooler will learn simple Irish dance steps (jigs and reels), play games, participate in stories  and learn group dances. This age group will work on skills to help them build respect by listening and following directions, and learn how to work better with classmates. Students will learn our Freestyle Karate and self defense based on their age. They will also take part in our skills program. Mr. Turner is a husband and a father of 4 great children. He has 25 years of martial arts experience and is the owner of Daniel Turner's Karate America on Central Ave.

Sarah Duvall completed her 200 hour teacher training in 2014 through It's Yoga Toledo, and went on to earn her 50 hour Rocket certification in 2015.  She has taught yoga at West Side Montessori for three years.

Yoga for Children’s House will be held from 3:30-4:00 p.m. on Fridays for 4 weeks in the Black Cherry Room.

Zumba Fitness For Kids

The goal of the Zumba Kids and Zumba Kids Jr. classes is to develop a healthy lifestyle and to incorporate fitness as a natural part of children's lives, not just as a class they attend once a week. Each session is filled with fun, kid appropriate songs and movements. A bottle of water will be provided for each student. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothing.  Also, a proper pair of shoes is key for easy-flowing movement: cross trainers or dance specific sneakers, or any other type with little-to-no tread on the bottom.  Marizol has been a West Side Employee for 9 years as the Data Administrator.  She teaches fitness kickboxing at a local gym; and participates in bootcamp and boxing most days after work. She has recently become a Zumba Kids and Zumba Kids Jr. Certified Licensed instructor.

Zumba Kids for Lower Elementary will be held from 3:30-4:00 p.m. on Mondays for 4 weeks in the Spanish Room.

This class will give an overview of the basics of photography, helping students learn skills needed to capture life through their camera lens. Students will spend time practicing what they have learned and will share what they have captured with fellow students. By the end of class they should have a greater excitement and interest in photography along with basic camera knowledge and photography terminology. Leah Lorann, a world traveler, will be teaching this class. She believes that taking time to pause with your camera gives you a chance to preserve the memory and share the beauty around you!

This is an introduction course in coding. Students will complete “unplugged” activities (off the computer), games, and will explore coding websites on the computer and with iPads. Ashley, West Side’s Tech teacher, will be teaching this class.

Calling all flower girls! Each class starts with creating your own hair accessory made by arranging silk or real flowers. All materials are provided in the class, with a new design theme each week. At the end of the class, simple hairstyles (crown braid, French braid, and fishtail) will be taught that will pair with your floral hair piece. Bridgett is in her 9th year of teaching at West Side and is the mother of two West Side students: Brookelynn and Brayden. She is passionate about gardening and creatively looks for ways to engage students with the outdoors.

Braided Garden for Lower Elementary will be held from 3:30-4:00 p.m. on Thursdays for 4 weeks in the Lilac Room.

Learnthe basics of guitar including: reading music, fretboard and proper care and maintenance. This class will build upon itself as sessions continue throughout the year. James Lorann, the teacher, has played guitar for 30 years in many different styles. He has also played with many bands through the years and currently plays with two different local musical groups.

Students will make their own portfolio with which to save all of their master works. Once the portfolio is complete we will begin creating art to add to it. Deb Simoff, West Side’s art teacher, will lead the class.

Taste the flavors of the world! There are so many great food options out there, why not explore them all? For Session 1 we will make, taste, and enjoy European cuisine. We have one rule in food club – we have to try everything at least once! Brianne, West Side’s CH-4 Spanish teacher and world traveler, will be offering the course.

International Food Club for UE/MS (6th-8th level) will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:15 for 4 weeks in the Children’s House Servery.

We will be teaching our style of FreeStyle Karate and Krav Maga Self Defense to this age group. We will also be teaching life skills through our life skills building material. During this class, students will be exploring with electricity. The students will create a take home blinking light model and a homopolar motors. Students will also explore with Makey Makeys and LittleBits. Ashley Christen has been working at West Side for 5 years as the Technology Teacher and Librarian. She is looking forward to having her students think outside the box, collaborate, and have a lot of fun with electricity!

Hands on Tech (UE) will be held from 3:30-4:15 p.m. on Thursdays for 4 weeks in the Tech Area.

Watercolor Wonders

Each week we will use watercolors to explore a different aspect of nature. This will be the beginning of a nature journal. Molly is a lower elementary teacher with a love of all things creative and messy.
