A Simulation of the Immigration Experience

Step Back in Time with WSM's Middle School!
This month, our Middle School students traveled back in time to the early 1900s for "Immigration Day." To prepare for the experience, each student researched their family histories and arrived at school dressed as someone might have appeared while immigrating to the United States during that time.

They participated in a powerful simulation where they were crowded onto "ships" and brought to Ellis Island. Each migrant was interviewed, searched, and inspected by immigration officials. After the simulation, they came together to share a meal filled with traditional dishes from their ancestral countries, bringing their heritage and research to life in a meaningful and personal way.

Immigration Day is always a memorable experience that connects students to the past while celebrating the rich diversity of our community.
