Ohio Arts Council TeachArtsOhio Grant

This past school year, WSM was fortunate to receive a TeachArtsOhio grant from the Ohio Arts Council.
Thanks to this grant, Risa Beth Cohen fulfilled a 100-day residency, working with our Little House and Children's House students, teaching an arts-integrated curriculum in music, movement, and literacy. Students learned beat, rhythm, dynamics, and pitch through explicit instruction and musical games.

Risa led a school-wide sing-along at our Thanks and Giving Celebration, an intergenerational sing-along at Oakleaf Village on Martin Luther King Day, and our kindergarten students performed for an audience of about 200 people at Spring Sing. Not only did the students learn musical skills, but also, and perhaps more importantly, they learned collaborative skills and the art of integration.

We want to express our heartfelt thanks to the Ohio Arts Council for providing our students with these valuable learning opportunities!
